About
Since its first edition in 2004, the Kino Otok – Isola Cinema International Film Festival is intended for the general and professional public as a festival in the genuine sense of the word, offering an excellent programme selected by its international programme board. Since its first edition in 2004, the Kino Otok – Isola Cinema International Film Festival is intended for the general and professional public as a festival in the genuine sense of the word, offering an excellent programme selected by its international programme board. Instead of competing with each other, the films in Kino Otok’s carefully curated line-up and their authors co-exist harmoniously in the festival’s sections: the traditional Signals (lucid films boasting original film languages and radical content), Good Neighbours (Films by neighbours near and far; neighbourly relations bringing us closer together rather than dividing us), 35mm Cult-ure (homage to the history of film), Friends (Carte blanche given to Otok’s programming friends), Silvan’s Bay (homage to cinematheques and cinephiles), and Video on the Beach (edgy shorts by independent rising filmmakers), the still fresh Europe 2.0 (a cinematic leap back into the future) and Home Sweet Home (ground breaking Slovenian film), and the brand new Chiaro-oscuro (casting light on the shadows of public debate) and Extra-Series (sometimes series are nice to watch with other people). PRO Otok is Kino Otok's programme for industry professionals and other interested parties. Spanning four days, this series of inspiring events aims to stimulate the exchange of ideas and experience between local and international professionals with backgrounds in film and film-related industries. The programme is organised in collaboration with a number of partner organisations. Submarine at Kino Otok is a varied film education programme for children, youth and families who love film and want to learn about the magical world of moving images from up close. This is a programme aimed at Kino Otok's youngest audiences, aged 3 to 18 years, as well as their parents or carers as encouragement in finding high-quality digital content for children. To give our visitors from near and far a warm Mediterranean welcome, the festival experience in Izola goes beyond films and film-related programmes, extending to many other cultural and artistic events.
Izola and Ljubljana are the festival’s traditional locations. However, any place can be Cinema, Isola Cinema. The satellite events of the festival have so far taken place at Sv. Anton, Koper, Nova Gorica, Tolmin, Idrija, Sežana, Cerknica and the Cinesquare VOD platform.
