Because of its intricate ambivalence among the natural vs. the industrial, as well as the soulful genre mixing of documentary and choreography, which takes the audience seemingly into the minds of the characters, the jury decided to give the main award to the unique cinematic vision displaying the compassionate life stories of hardworking lashers, YOU CAN`T AUTOMATE ME by Katarina Jazbec.

“SO THAT HUMANITY CAN SURVIVE brings playfulness into emptiness in a fascinating way, transforms boredom into adventure in a surprising cinematic language. Above all it tells a serious topic in a funny way. And it manages to reboot meanings, through snappy dialogues and humour.

"With a brave and innovative, yet old school, approach to the narrative, the film is a real visual feast that is also able to convey a unique view on difficult topics such as drug addiction and consumerism. The combination of dark humor and disturbing images, shot with an extraordinary level of craftsmanship, evokes the works of the masters of adult animation such as Jan Svankmeyer or the Quay Brothers. Therefore, the K3 Festival Jury Award for the Best Short Film goes to SOMA."
Award sum € 1.500.-
„It was hard to pick a winner, we saw six very different films, we liked them all very much. ROSA shows in a very different and beautiful way the unity of death and life. We see an older couple struggling with the death of their child. Their malfunctioning relationship suffers even more after this tragedy but the story leads them in a surprising direction. Katja Colja develops the figures in their own time. There is a focus on the woman but she also shows the feelings and fears of the husband in a very loving way. We are impressed by the visualization of all the little things that cannot be told. The performance of the cast is outstanding. Regarding a theatrical release in Austrian cinemas, we think that ROSA will be an enrichment for our audiences.”
Award sum € 5.000 for a theatrical release in Austria (including € 1.000 of payment in kind by CinePostproduction)
