EUROPEAN DISCOVERY - PRIX FIPRESCI
FIPRESCI Award
A sensitive and profound film about coming to terms with life and death, entirely carried by the pre-adolescent lead actress, inhabited by her character. A film that lives in the space between worlds, where atmosphere and subtlety outweigh explicit explanation. It creates an authentic feeling of childhood in the countryside, woven through with elements of magical realism that reflect the main character’s emotions. Fipresci Prize goes to Ester Ivakič’s film Ida Who Sang So Badly Even the Dead Rose Up and Joined Her in Song.
The FIPRESCI Film Critic Award 2025 goes to a film that focuses on caring for trees and highlights the intergenerational responsibility for the climate breakdown. Also, on the dramaturgical level the vegetables create a visual bridge between science fiction and documentary. A dystopian view filled with a feeling of loss and melancholia introduces us to a place of refuge where we can hope for repair. Here the documentary elements are put at a distance through the analysis of images. The cinematic immersion, enhanced by impressive photography and elaborate framing, leaves room for a reflection about an urgent “common fear” to which anyone can feel connected, and probably re-connected with nature.
competition programme Perspectives
"Secrets, intimate desires, deception, confessions: this Perspectives film explores a kaleidoscope of emergent awakenings as driven by an evocative sensory experience and epitomised by its exceptional opening scene. The filmmaker beautifully portrays the struggles of a teenage girl stepping into adolescence—the push and pull of sexuality and societal restrictions—through excellent cinematic expression. For this portrait of the eponymous “little girls in trouble” crafted in an imaginative and oneiric way, the FIPRESCI Jury Award for the inaugural Perspectives section goes to Little Trouble Girls by Urška Djukić."
Jury statement: We, the FIPRESCI jury of the 30th Cottbus Film Festival, award this year's prize to OASIS by Ivan Ikić. It's an attentive and compassionate sophomore feature with a sensitive look at people with mental impairments and their “normal” need for closeness and understanding. The film's aesthetics are subtle but proficient, painting a heartfelt portrait of inclusivity and the struggle accompanying it.
Film s tehniko, ki v običajnih podobah krajin ustvarja vizualni šum, razdira ustaljeno dojemanje filmskega posnetka in hkrati že vzpostavlja nove iluzije.
Pulzirajoče podobe in zvoki vznemirjajo gledalčeve sinapse in ustvarijo celostno telesno izkušnjo, ki nas posrka v mašino spomina.
The intimate portrait of Iva holds up a mirror to a society that increasingly dictates the ideals of appearance, beauty and success. The film delivers its commentary in an unobtrusive way,; it avoids moralising and encourages the contemplation of how contemporary technology and society – which have transferred the limelight from stages and runways to our living rooms – shape the individual’s self-image.
Kako se soočiti s travmami vojne in razrešiti globoko zakoreninjeno sovraštvo? Je mogoče ponovno vzpostaviti (za)upanje v zlomljeni družbi? To so vprašanja, ki odmevajo v tem pretresljivem, izjemno napisanem in odigranem filmu, prežetem z mučno atmosfero, toksično moškostjo, nelagodjem in nezaupanjem. Za občutljivost pri raziskovanju kompleksne narave ranjenih posameznikov, natančno poznavanje ter razumevanje fizičnih in psihičnih posledic vojne, predvsem pa za odločno humanistično zavezo medsebojnemu razumevanju, sočutju in sprejemanju Mednarodna žirija filmskih kritikov nagrado FIPRESCI podeljuje filmu Moški ne jočejo, prvencu Alena Drljevića.
Portraying a family delicately and the weight of history without showing its failures: characters who want to move forward.
For its tender, satirical and authentic evocation of growing up in Slovenia in the 1970s and its more general appeal to audiences beyond.
