Sara Kern (1989) is a Slovenian-born writer and director based in Melbourne, Australia. She graduated in film directing from the AGRFT, in 2013. She has worked as a screenwriter for the Slovenian National Television’s Children and Youth Programme for several years before moving to Australia. Her short Good Luck Orlo (2016) premiered at 73rd Venice FF and was screened at the TIFF, Chicago IFF, and Seattle IFF. Kern was selected for the TIFF Talent Lab (2017), Torino Script Lab (2018), and Cannes’ Cinéfondation Residence (2018) with her debut feature screenplay in development, which also received support from Screen Australia and Film Victoria. Her new short film Vesna Goodbye premiered at the Sarajevo FF 2020.

Režiserka Sara Kern s filmom Vesna Goodbye v kratki filmski formi prikaže izsek iz življenja desetletne deklice, ki mora zaradi družinskih dogodkov odrasti mnogo prehitro. Pripoved lahko vidimo kot bežen preblisk ali pa dramo z odprtim koncem, v obeh primerih je film kljub kratki dolžini žirijo prepričal do te mere, da bi mu ob nekoliko drugačnih pravilih zlahka podelili tudi kakšno nagrado v celovečernih kategorijah. Nagrada za najbolj izvirno delo naj predstavlja vzpodbudo za nadaljnjo nadgradnjo obetajočega pripovednega univerzuma, ki ga režiserka gradi v svojih kratkih filmih.
