FAB - Festival of animation Berlin

The winner receives €1,000, sponsored by Animation Network Berlin e. V. and Soybloq, as well as a software license sponsored by MOHO.

With so many amazing short films to choose from, this film stood out for its story, unique art style and strong main character. The main character is shown as independent and strong, but also a little stubborn and rebellious. The film also shows how being a woman can change the way people see you. Its unexpected ending adds another layer to the story and invites the audience to reflect on identity and change. The art style is simple but unique. By telling the story entirely through text and without sound, the film takes an unusual approach to storytelling. For all these reasons, the jury chose The Girl Who Wasn’t Afraid of Bears.

Award for the powerful use of animation as a storytelling tool and the courageous and sensible way of approaching a meaningful and challenging theme.”
