Luka Marčetić
Biography
Luka Marčetić (b. 1985, Zagreb) graduated from Ljubljana's Institute and Academy of Multimedia. He created Slovenia's first web series “Day of Love” and the Slovenian hit TV series “Paired Up”. His 2016 low-budget comedy “At Hostar” broke Slovenian box office records, becoming the country's most-viewed film ever, followed by a similarly successful sequel. “Girl in the Night” is his first auteur feature.

Girl in the Night is a film that brings creative freshness, rigour, and an uncompromising auteur’s perspective to the Slovenian film landscape. Luka Marčetić surprises the viewer with a daring cinematic language that, through an extremely stylised poetics of everyday life, deconstructs the genre’s potential and fundamental assumptions of the imaginary in Slovenian cinema. By consistently sustaining the melancholic absurdity of existence, he subverts established narrative conventions and, using the hot-and-cold techniques of Scandinavian asceticism, thrusts us into a world we suddenly find ourselves unable to face. With a rarely seen consistency of tone and energy, Girl in the Night opens up a new field of reflection in Slovenian genre cinema.
A whimsical romantic tale that is unlike anything Slovenian cinema has seen before. With a distinct auteur style, quirky protagonists, and dry, absurd humour, the film transcends the expected boundaries of its genre.
