The shooting of the live-action feature One Month by the director Janez Burger begins

The filming of the new feature One Month, directed by Janez Burger, began yesterday. The film will be shot over thirty shooting days in Ljubljana, Kamnik, Solkan, and the Viba Film Studio. This is Burger’s seventh live-action feature film.

The intimate drama follows three characters on the margins of society: an unemployed female intellectual, a pregnant girl from a dysfunctional family, and a gay man who grew up as an orphan. Housing hardship forces them to share a home and navigate a tense yet caring coexistence that explores what family means in a time of precarious work conditions and social struggles. The screenplay was written by the director and Ognjen Sviličić.

At the start of the film shoot, the director said: “In a world where geo-strategic relations and social tensions verge on desperation, this film adopts a lighter tone while exploring whether human coexistence is still possible and how much effort it requires to achieve it.”

Starring: Nataša Barbara Gračner, Maks Dakskobler, Suzana Krevh, Vlado Vlaškalič, Vesna Slapar, Jurij Zrnec, Timon Šturbej, Klemen Janežič, Jara Sofija Ostan and others.

The film features the work of the production manager Esma Hajdarpašić, director of photography Mitja Ličen, production designer Vasja Kokelj, costume designer Barbara Drmota, makeup designer Eva Uršič, and editor Miloš Kalusek. Produced by Nina Robnik and Miha Černec from the Staragara production company.

The project was financially supported by the Slovenian Film Centre, RTV Slovenija, and Creative Europe – MEDIA, in cooperation with Viba Film Studio. The film is co-produced by Propeler Film from Croatia and Staragara I.T. from Italy.

Janez Burger was born in 1965 in Slovenia. He studied at the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana and at FAMU in Prague, where he graduated in film and TV directing in 1996. His films have received many awards at both national and international film festivals. His last feature film, Observing, had its international premiere at the Tallinn International Film Festival (Black Nights Film Festival) in November 2023 and received the Vesna Award for Best Actress (Diana Kolenc) at the Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož. The director lives and works in Ljubljana.
