Igor Vrtačnik
Biography
Since he graduated from the AGRFT in Ljubljana, Igor Vrtačnik (1967), a passionate sailor and climber, has worked as an independent producer and director of documentaries, which have also been well received at international festivals. Vrtačnik’s filmography from 2010 includes the following documentaries: Documentary Tv. series Chasters of the dark (2016 ), Symphony of the Underworld (2018), Ama Dablam, Dreams Unfolded (2016), Through My Eyes (2023).

Scenarist in režiser Igor Vrtačnik je v seriji Lovci teme predstavil tudi mednarodni javnosti doslej neznana dejstva o začetkih podvodne fotografije in snemanja, katerih akterji so bili pionirji na tem področju tudi v svetovnem merilu. Dragoceno, tudi še nevideno arhivsko gradivo in številna pričevanja je združil v izjemno zanimivo, gledljivo in prepričljivo tematsko celoto, s katero se RTV Slovenija postavlja ob bok tujim dokumentarno-izobraževalnim programom. Prvi del serije je bil nagrajen tudi na Prix Circom 2013.
This documentary dispels a myth about who were the pioneers of underwater photography. It is ofen thought that the German Haas Haas built the first camera housings in 1937. However, in the same year, a group of Slovakian teenagers, fascinated by the flora and fauna, built their own diving equipment and took underwater photos over a period of years. This hidden story tells the human passion and never-ending yearning to discover the unknown. The judges clearly loved this story, told wonderfully with archive moving image and evocative still photography.
