An observational documentary with cinematic experience asking: What is important in life? The motivation for the film is director’s loss of her father. Every one of us will have to face mortality. It’s up to us what we’ll be like in those moments. A strong woman, a palliative care promoter Manca Košir is diagnosed with cancer, celebrating life all along. She says her friendship with death began at the age of 19 on the shoot of BIRCH TREE (1967), where she lay in a coffin for a month while filming. Film explores the director’s experience of the loss of her father. With home videos of her mother, filmed by the director, she contemplates her father’s absence and intertwines the material with Manca’s story. The film gives viewers a chance to think about their own loss, their own mortality. How does time affect our memories, our loss? Observational film explores acceptance of time and celebration of life. What will you do with the time you have left?

I wanted to make a documentary about accepting death as part of our lives. Manca Košir was a big promotor of palliative care and her story opens doors into exploring departure. My personal story of loss is also in the film. As a director I wanted to give the viewer a place to explore the loss of their loved ones and accepting his own mortality. The film gives the viewer a place to ask: What will you do with the time you have left?

V tišini življenja je film, ki govori življenju, ki se mu ob bok postavlja težko ozdravljiva bolezen, smrt in minljivost. Komisija temo filma prepoznava kot univerzalno in relevantno.
Iz priloženih dokumentov je dojeti izjemno intimno avtorsko gledišče, hkrati pa se projekt teme loteva na nov, pozitiven in unikaten način.
Za slovenski prostor je film V tišini življenja še posebej zanimiv. Spremlja namreč poznano osebnost. A je tema filma in pristop k portretirani osebi usmerjen onkraj poznanosti in prepoznavnosti portretirane osebe, zato ga komisija prepoznava kot zanimivega za širšo mednarodno publiko. Film ne govori o glavni protagonistki, ampak predvsem o človeku s specifično življenjsko izkušnjo.

V tišini življenja je observacijski celovečerni dokumentarec o razumevanju polnosti življenja z imenitno glavno junakinjo Manco Košir, osebo z razgibano, polnokrvno preteklostjo in sedanjostjo, ki se spopada z rakom, s prostovoljko, ki pomaga v Hospicu pri umiranju ljudi in v Sloveniji medijsko odlično prepoznano osebo. Film vstopi v njeno sedanjost, spoznamo jo kot dejavno upokojenko, ki živi polno življenje, se ne obremenjuje z nostalgično preteklostjo, ni zaskrbljena zaradi prihodnosti, zaveda se minljivosti in ljubi življenje prav zato, ker enkrat mine. Tematika življenjskega kroga je temeljno univerzalna. Verodostojnost projektu zagotavlja lik Mance Košir, življenjsko izpolnjenega človeka, ki v istem žaklju nosi življenjsko radost in pomiritev s smrtjo. Okrog glavne junakinje, kakor veje iz debla, vznikajo vzporedne zgodbe in dogodki, se med seboj prepletajo in ustvarijo razmišljujoče vzdušje in občutek notranje pomiritve. Pričakovana privlačnost filma za slovenski in evropski oziroma mednarodni kulturni prostor je velika, zaradi zgodbe protagonistke, kredibilnosti režiserke in producenta, da s pomočjo prisotnih koproducentov naredijo zanimiv in presenetljiv kinematografski film.
