Synopsis
The focus is on the disintegration of an idyllic relationship between parents, Marko and Dunja. This is due to a lack of respect, caused by loss of employment and a financial breakdown. In time, the parents are no longer able to bear their burden, which is thus increasingly weighing their children down. In Slovenia, the story from The Basics of Killing occurs on a daily basis, but it could happen anywhere. To those familiar with the phenomenon, the film will be a painful experience, to others, may it be a warning.

Za Marka Brdarja je filmsko platno kot slikarsko platno, kamor sloj za slojem nanaša barve in njihove odtenke, sence in njihovo stopnjevanje, temo in svetlobo, ki dajejo filmom dodatno, čisto novo dimenzijo. Njegova kamera je kot občutljivo oko, ki živi za svoje like.
Damir Avdić je s svojo avtorsko glasbo v filmih Družinica in Ivan ustvaril diskretno a ekspresivno glasbeno ozadje, ki o dogajanju pogosto pove veliko več kot besede, ki jih izrekajo nastopajoči. Avdićeva glasba je tesnobna in lepa hkrati, zlasti pa je izjemno filmska, saj se je avtor namesto na glasbeni razvoj osredotočil na oblikovanje vzdušja. Njegovi glasbeni motivi tako redko obsegajo več kot zgolj nekaj akordov, vendar pa prav vsak od teh zadane natanko tja, kamor meri.
Boštjan Kačičnik je s svojim prispevkom ustvaril pestro in hkrati pretresljivo zvočno kuliso, ki zagotavlja, da gledalcev dogajanje ne zadane zgolj v srce, pač pa tudi v želodec.
Emil Cerar in Polonca Valentinčič sta s svojimi kostumi spretno poudarila tako počasno drsenje družine na socialni rob kot tudi raznovrstnost načinov, s katerimi se posamezni člani družine soočajo z izzivi revščine.
