The story of the feature film Tractor, Love and Rock'n'roll, based on the novel Vankoštanc written by Feri Lainšček, is set in early 1960s, the time of socialism, when rock'n'roll was appearing and the Rolling Stones were changing the world with their music. Breza, a young country fellow from a remote village in Prekmurje, wants to perform in public festivities with his guitar. He is not very successful as his competition is the traditional gipsy band that performs ethnic popular music. He manages to conquer the heart of the village belle Silvija, though. Silvija is the daughter of a wealthy migrant in Switzerland, who sent his daughter back home to find a husband with healthy roots. This, however, is just the beginning of a story, where the real protagonist is actually Duplin, a weird newcomer, deaf-and-dumb tramp, a boy from the country of the south fruit, as he is named by Breza's mother, the old Popovka, a farm owner and fortune-teller, also known as Strina. Vankoštanc is the name of a traditional Prekmurje wedding dance with a pillow. This very feast is the event that activates happening with many consequences. A story about how rock'n'roll came to our village can be funny and tragic, at the same time it can also be metaphoric.
