Along with the memories of a married but alienated couple, the tune from a music box also conceals the loss of their son. In the loneliness of the countryside and in the face of the Germanization of their only son, it represents all the unspoken words which over the years have collected in the hearts of the two people, who have dealt with their distress separately and each in their own way.
