The documentary ”Hands and Hearts” presents life in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina. By telling the story of Mujo Turajlić (1969), who in a mine explosion, lost both arms, the sight in his left eye and impaired the vision in his right eye, the viewer will not admire only his will for life but also see the underlying national tensions that can over night burst into a new conflict. With his immense determination and inner strength, Mujo Turajlić has managed to overcome several obstacles that he had to cope with as a disabled person on his way to normal life. Today he is a married father of two children who earns his own living. Nevertheless, he cannot step out of the environment in which he is living, where invisible divides exist among the Croats, Serbs and Bosnians. Unique divides exist also within Mujo’s family, where in a traditional rural environment a man, although a disabled one, is still the head of the family, which puts several challenges in front of all family members, and in particular in front of his wife Fehima.
