The quisling army of the Home-guard is fleeing the country chased by the partisan army. Partisan fighter Ivan and quisling Martin, both born in the same village, try to kill each other, yet, under unusual circumstances they survive. They are fated to live in peace as two neighbours up to advanced old age and to remain the last inhabitants in the village. In their neighbourhood lives widow Lenka with her son Christopher. Her husband and Christopher’s father was killed under mysterious circumstances before the birth of the child, after the war. The two quarreling men’s passions brought about by different ideologies, are being continually dissolved by Lenka and her womanliness. But can two old enemies become reconciled at all? According to the legend of St Christopher, Christophoros carries a burden that is heavier and heavier.
