FeFi is the first Slovenian feminist film festival where women's stories and female creators are in the centre. She is named after Genovefa or tribal woman, a patroness of candle makers, shepherds, milliners and gardeners, but also protectress of eyesight. Her all-seeing eye highlights the invisible, subjugated, marginalized, but tough and rough stories that change the course of history.. The festival will lead into past, present and future of women’s cinematic work where rules are self-made and roads are unpaved. Section Fresh calls attention to international radical newcomers, who defy the “good ol’ ways” of patriarchal filmmaking. Section Now! is in the moment of Slovenian filmmaking while Retro spotlights past works, invisible or unseen. FeFi gives preference to the female gaze and calls for solidarity: »An Eye for an Eye is démodé. An Eye with an Eye is now, gazing into the same direction.«

FeFi will direct its eye to us – here and now – with a selection of three short films from each field of filmmaking: a feature film, a documentary and an animation. They all tell painful but at the same time encouraging stories of modern women. Through the film Dear Jožica, created by Anne-Pauline Serres, Marta Fernández Risco and Estel Teodoro at the DoKK 2019 International Documentary Film Workshop in Krško, we will meet a protagonist who, after 50 years of marriage, realizes that freedom is not only a privilege but also her right. A miniature reflection on femininity in the time of sexual equality, titled After the Hunt and directed by Urška Djukić, will take us on a hunt with Silva (Nataša Barbara Gračner) and her teenage daughter Ana (Ana Pavlin). With the stop motion animation To the Dusty Sea (À la mer poussiere), directed by Héloïse Ferlay, we will immerse ourselves in the family world of Malo and Zoe, a brother and a sister who stay home alone in the absence of their father and fight for their mother's attention. We will discuss the films and topics with the authors on International Women’s Day, the 8th of March at 20.00 (8 PM) at this link.
