The shooting of Katarina Morano’s debut film Seaview begins

The filming of Seaview, director Katarina Morano’s debut feature, has begun. It will mainly take place on the Slovenian coast in January and February, as well as in Novi Vinodolski, Croatia, and Ljubljana for a few days. Seaview portrays a single day and night in the chaotic life of a loving young family, which, while attempting to escape the spiral of precarity, is sinking further into it. The screenplay was written by the director and Žiga Divjak.

At the start of the film shoot, the director said: ”With Seaview, I want to capture a day in the life of a young family caught in a spiral of precarity – a day that closely resembles a game of Tetris at its fastest speed, where a single wrong move can cause everything to collapse in an instant. This is the feeling we aim to portray: what it is like to be a young mother in a coastal tourist town, preparing risotto for lunch at five in the morning, unsure of who will be able to pick up her two children from kindergarten in the afternoon. She only knows that they will definitely fail again to take the dog for a walk today.”

Starring Maruša Majer alongside Iztok Drabik Jug. Also featuring Kaja Petrovič, Jerko Marčić, Jana Zupančič, Janez Škof, Marjuta Slamič, Gregor Zorc, and Nataša Tič Ralijan. The crew includes the director of photography Domen Martinčič, production designer Neža Zinajić, costume designer Tina Pavlović, makeup designer Kyriaki Melidou, and editor Andrej Nagode. The producers are Katja Lenarčič and Danijel Hočevar, with Ioanna Bolomyti as co-producer and Luka Peterca as line producer.

Produced by the Vertigo production company, in co-production with Atalante Productions from Greece and RTV Slovenija. The film is co-financed by the Slovenian Film Centre and the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Centre, in collaboration with Viba Film Studio. The project’s development was supported by Creative Europe – MEDIA.

Katarina Morano is a screenwriter and director with a Master’s degree in Film Directing from the Ljubljana Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television. She won two Prešeren prizes for student films; her graduation film Where To was nominated for a Student Academy Award; her MA film project Ljubljana-München 15:27 received a Special Jury Mention at the Sarajevo Film Festival and was screened as part of the Future Frames section featuring promising young filmmakers and directors at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
