Genio, a man from the village of Srednje/Stregna is a farmhand. He receives from his master paltry food, mostly just bread and a small bed to lie on in return for the difficult work. Genio’s story was recorded in the 1960s by a film enthusiast. Recordings were joined into feature and documentary films, likely the first film documents ever to come from the valley of the Nadiža River. The film shows the long-gone past that was wholly dependant on farming and a historic way of formation of village communities. The Man of Srednje/Stregna is a valuable ethnographic document, but at the same time a tale imbued with profound humanity. The re-mastered edition of the movie is made of new editing of the original footage in the 8 mm format and an entirely re-mastered sound.
