In mining tunnels, in terrible conditions, people from the margins of society used to toil away building a better world for them and their communities. With technological change, mines started to close down, and easier and higher paid jobs have been created. While miners’ dreams of a better life came true, it came at the cost of community disintegration and identity loss. Former miners want to return into the pits.
