Synopsis
Aleš, Žiga and Sašo are friends from childhood. Aleš is a former car racing champion. He now runs a tire shop, and lives above it with his younger partner Urša. Žiga is involved in a terrible traffic accident, and despite being a doctor, he attempts to cover it up. The accident claimed the lives of two young parents who leave behind an infant. Žiga is involved in a terrible traffic accident, and despite being a doctor, he attempts to cover it up. The accident claimed the lives of two young parents who leave behind an infant. Žiga turns to Aleš for help. But Aleš is faced with the dilemma of whether he should help his friend or go to the police, where Sašo works, and report him. Aleš lost his own parents very early in life, so he is increasingly inclined to report the accident. But he is reluctant, since Žiga was the doctor who once saved Urša’s life. The film took its title from the bronze statue of the same name made by Franc Berneker in 1905.

Berneker’s statue Drama had struck me ever since as a child I started going on regular family outings to the National Gallery in Ljubljana. That and a funny anecdote about a childhood taxi ride from our family tire service mechanic Aleš Bužga sparked in me the idea for a film about facing the consequences of actions and decisions which through a drama about love and friendship open up vital questions about human relations. I wrote the screenplay with my oldest son Domen, and I ultimately gave the lead part to our tire mechanic and put him in front of the camera. For the first time in my professional career I decided to occasionally use zoom in the framing, something I had always avoided in previous films.

Nekako tako kot v grških tragedijah se je tudi v pričujoči zgodbi tragični sprožilni dogodek že zgodil in sedaj »na odru« spremljamo njegov odmev skozi razmerja med tremi liki, ki jih povezuje prijateljstvo že iz otroštva. Nič takega se več ne zgodi, pa vendar je zgodba nasičena z napetostjo, utemeljeno na univerzalnih in večnih moralnih dilemah: Kako je s krivdo in odgovornostjo, ali nam naša vest dopušča sprejemanje kompromisov? Ali po Kantovsko: kaj je bolj pomembno: delati prav ali biti srečen? Avtor v režijski eksplikaciji pojasni, da se bodo vsi detajli razmerij med liki izrisali skozi delo z igralci, ne dvomimo, o tem govori tudi njegovo dosedanje delo, da mu bo to tudi uspelo. Kljub temu pa pripomnimo, da je v trikotniku lik Saše nekoliko v senci in bi ga veljalo skozi nadaljnje delo bolj izostriti.
