Former Partisan courier Ale lives alone. A chance meeting once brings him together briefly with a woman, who had wanted to approach him, but had changed her mind. Ale gets drunk at an office party and ends up in bed with one of his co-workers. At a Partisan veterans' get-together the next day, he meets a boy called Ale, who tells him that he is living alone with his mother, as his father was killed in the war. On the way home from the party Ale again meets the woman whom he had met briefly once before. In her, he recognises Mara, his unrequited love. He finds out that Mara is the mother of young Ale. That evening, Ale gets drunk again and Mara tells him that little Ale is his son. Even Mara's husband is linked by a twist of fate with Ale. Will Ale be able to resume his normal life after all these fateful coincidences?
