Vandima

A historical saga, based on personal stories and the history of Brda (a region near the border in the west of Slovenia), depicts a bloody history of Europe, full of wars, nationalisms and at the same time cohabitation, which is always personal and common to everyone. For millennia Europe has sought to establish its identity in blood and delimit its territory. Individuals, caught in the cruel game of demarcation, are inescapably linked to the destiny of the nation they belong to. Therefore is seems that only requited love is the illusion that defines happiness or unhappiness in life. A series of loveless conceptions ends in a true love story which is only possible with bold actions of the free spirit individuals. In a non-linear narrative manner the film depicts a tragic love story of four generations. The main story is the unusual sensual and emotional life of the young Lorela, who overcomes the past and finds the way to meet a true love, free from social bounds and borders.
