The life of inventor Oto Kern becomes complicated when he attempts to expose the shady dealings of several members of his factory's executive board. His private life is also falling to pieces. Not even the affair he has with a total stranger, when his wife and his mistress of long standing both leave him, brings him any comfort. Oto's sole satisfaction now lies in unmasking the corrupt dealings of his bosses, but as a result of his honest and stubborn perseverance he is committed to a mental hospital by the authorities who were bribed by the factory leadership. Upon his release from the hospital, he finds that the doors to the factory are closed to him. Can this ordinary man succeed in his struggle against the corrupt high-ranking political functionaries running the factory and convince them that he has the workers' best interest at heart? Can the truth only be bought by shedding blood?
