Not Your Ordinary Sister

''Not Your Ordinary Sister'' is a queer satire which, in a witty yet direct way, addresses both the startling popularity of lesbian vampire films as well as the lack of proper representation in queer cinema on the subject of queerness within the conservative and patriarchal religious organizations (lesbian nuns / lesbian ex-nuns).

The film is trying to make the point through subtle humor, making the spectator laugh, but still keeping the absurdity bluntly clean. After all, lesbian nuns and ex-nuns are real life people with real life struggles, while lesbian vampires are fictional characters, which are mostly a product of straight men's imaginations. One can wonder how many women chose being a nun because they were lesbian and it was a safer choice, not only a response to a call from God but a refuge from heterosexuality, Catholic marriage and exhausting motherhood. Many women are fully aware of their homosexual identity when joining the religious orders and it should be possible to be a sister while being accepted as a lesbian woman.
