When the Germans occupy a small town in Slovenia, it seems that the adults have all accepted the domination of the enemy. Their children, however, decide that life under foreign rule has become unbearable and found their own resistance movement. Wasting no time, they set to work immediately and surprise the somewhat resigned town council by carrying out a number of operations. The climax of their activities comes when they rescue a prisoner of war from the heavily garrisoned town. The town's misfits, circus performers, village fools and many of the children looked upon by the adults as being too young to understand, all prove to be the town's bravest, most daring and mature inhabitants.
