Ivana Kobilca (1861-1962) was a true pioneer of Slovenian painting. In 1889 she organized the first Slovenian exhibition on the first floor of the Ljubljana technical high school. In this film, our greatest painter Ivana Kobilca (played by Nataša Matjašec) takes us on her European journey to Vienna, Munich, Paris, Sarajevo and Berlin, while Slovenian and foreign experts from six countries shed light on the most interesting parts of her life. The film underlines the path of a female artist, which was anything but simple for a woman in the 19th century (which is evident from the difficulties she had in finding schools or from her signing pictures with an initial only (I. Kobilca) to conceal her gender, which enabled her to exhibit her work easily in major European galleries).
