Synopsis
In 1921 Italy annexed Istria. The area around Labin is rich in coal and the new government is aware of its strategic importance. Local people are indignant with the Kingdom of Yugoslavia who sold them to Italy. The miners decide on a strike and choose Ivan Pipan to be their leader. Young miner Ive joins the workers and spends the 37 days of the strike as the hardest days of his life. Italian army’s intervention defeats the strikers and their leader is forced to surrender. But not all of the workers share his opinion...
