Synopsis
At the railway station in Jesenice, Samir waits for a train he hopes will bring his father back from the war in Bosnia. It is 1992. Yugoslavia is collapsing, and the news reaching Slovenia is devastating . When Samir’s mother is told that her son is suspected of vandalism at the station, the day gradually opens into a landscape of grief, anger, and unspoken truths. Their return to the station leads to a confrontation in which the accusation becomes a catalyst for uncovering a painful truth about Samir’s absent father.

I was born shortly after the Yugoslav wars, and visits to relatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina were raw and emotional. I learned about sorrow early on, but also about the solidarity of people shaped by war. I grew up in an apartment block in Jesenice, where people were not divided by origin or religion. My best friend was Serbian; we never argued about the war, but we often clashed over basketball players.

S scenaristovimi vtisi iz otroštva podprt scenarij po zgodbi Zorana Kneževića nepreračunljivo odpira travmatično obdobje polpretekle zgodovine – posledice vojn v republikah nekdanje Jugoslavije. V ta časovni kontekst je umeščena iskrena in boleča pripoved o jeznem fantu Samirju, ki na jeseniški železniški postaji kamenja vlak, ker je nekoč odpeljal v vojno njegovega očeta. Avtor odpre relevantne teme odraščanja, na videz nemotivirane agresivnosti, človeške solidarnosti, bridkega spoznanja o očetovi smrti ter ponovnega zbližanja z materjo. Besedilo izpušča vse nepomembno. Elegantno, v nekaj izčiščenih prizorih, pripelje do spoznanja, ki bo glavnega junaka spremljalo vse življenje. Dialogi, omejeni na bistveno, učinkovito predstavijo značaje in podpirajo situacije. Filmske osebe prepričljivo zaživijo pred bralcem/gledalcem, čeprav se večina, razen ustrezno ves čas prisotnega osrednjega lika, le bežno pojavi v filmu. Zgodba, ki se učinkovito začne s takojšnjim junakovim znašanjem nad vlakom, se čudovito konča na Bledu, ki pozabljen od turistov s svojo lepoto obdaja le Samirja in njegovo mamo. Projekt obeta droben, a dragocen prispevek k ozaveščanju stisk, ki jih je prebivalcem Slovenije prinesla vojna na Balkanu, in bo kot takšen relevanten prispevek k razvoju slovenske avdiovizualne ustvarjalnosti, saj daje glas pripadnikom skoraj getoiziranih narodnih skupnosti, ki so se s trebuhom za kruhom, ali pozneje pred uničujočo vojno, zatekli v Slovenijo. Ob subtilni realizaciji lahko nastane človeške topline in bridkosti poln film, ki bo privlačen tudi za mednarodne festivale kratkega filma.
