It is just after World War Two, when whole-scale nationalization is being carried out. Agricultural cooperatives are being founded in Kajžar, as elsewhere throughout the land, and individual allegiances during the war are nowhere near forgotten yet. This drama is about the wine-grower Vraček and the people of the Haloze region who, caught up in the impetus of building the new, socialist state, sometimes forget where the line between exercising authority and respecting human dignity lies. The villagers find that they must decide whether collaboration and past cooperation with the occupying forces is sufficient reason for a trial without judge or jury, and whether it justifies making decisions without sober consideration.
